Ana Paula Russo

Soprano

Born in Beja, Ana Paula Russo completed the Higher Diploma in Singing at the National Conservatory, having also studied in Salzburg and Lucerne with Elisabeth Grümmer and H. Diez. Alongside this, she worked with Gino Becchi, C. Thiolass, Regine Resnick, and Marimi del Pozo.

She holds a Master’s degree in Singing from the Lisbon School of Music and has performed as a soloist in numerous Lieder, opera, and oratorio concerts, both in Portugal and abroad, taking part in many of the country’s most renowned festivals.

In 1988, she won the first prize in Singing at the competition of the Juventude Musical Portuguesa and at the Olga Violante Competition, and was a finalist in the F. Viñas Competition in Barcelona. In 1989, she represented Portugal, through RTP, at the Cardiff Singer of the World competition. In 1990, she was awarded prizes at the International Competitions of Oviedo and Luisa Todi.

She has made and participated in numerous television and recording productions, with particular emphasis on her opera roles, a field in which her career has been especially distinguished, as well as her dedication to Portuguese musical heritage.

In 2015, she was awarded the Excellence in Classical Music Prize by the magazine Mais Alentejo. She has been a contributor to RTP Antena 2 for more than a decade.

She is currently a Singing professor at the Artistic Music School of the National Conservatory, at the Almada Music Academy, and coordinator of the Cidade de Almada singing competition.
