Manteigas Summer Music Festival

In a setting unique in Portugal, in the heart of the Serra da Estrela, the town of Manteigas will host the second edition of the Summer Music Festival, organized by Coro Sinfónico Lisboa Cantat.

Following a first edition that brought together around seventy participants in the workshops and attracted a large local audience to its various performances—from major symphonic concerts to appearances by local musicians, as well as chamber music concerts of exceptional quality—the time has come to take the next step and consolidate the success achieved.

From 15 to 22 August, choral music enthusiasts will have the opportunity, in a relaxed and inspiring environment, to work on a repertoire as diverse as madrigals and Hollywood music, alongside one of the great orchestral and choral symphonic masterpieces: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

During this week, in addition to rehearsals aimed at presenting the work developed in concert, participants will also benefit from moments dedicated to improving their vocal technique, as well as free time to explore the Serra da Estrela and discover the charming town of Manteigas.

The artistic team will include soprano and vocal coach Rute Dutra, conductor and the Festival’s artistic director Jorge Carvalho Alves, and pianist Joana Barata. We will also welcome the Portuguese Academic Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of a collaboration with the Guarda Music Festival, which will take place in that city during the same period, under the direction of conductor Osvaldo Ferreira.

Once again, we aim to make this an unforgettable week for all participants in an event that will bring a cultural delegation to the heart of Portugal, with concerts throughout the week, including two major performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Guarda and Manteigas, on 19 and 20 August, respectively.
