Bariton Soloist

The baritone Christian Oldenburg was born in Husum/North Sea and studied at the renowned “Hanns Eisler” Academy of Music in Berlin with Renate Faltin and Julia Varady. Master classes for scenic design with Willi Decker and Peter Konwitschny and for song interpretation with Wolfram Rieger rounded off his training. His long-standing patrons include Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau from 2007-2009 and Julia Varady. He has also been awarded scholarships from the Geschwister Lorenzen Foundation, the Förderverein of the “Hanns Eisler”, the Richard Wagner Association Berlin and the renowned Vadstena Academien in Sweden.

Since then, he has performed throughout Europe as an opera and concert singer, at the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Smetana Hall in Prague, the Sala Palatului Bucharest, the Opéra de Lyon, the Teatro comunale di Bologna and La Monnaie in Brussels.

Since the 2010/11 season, he has been a permanent guest at the Theater Lüneburg, where he has performed roles in his repertoire such as Mozart's Papageno, Figaro and Guglielmo as well as leading roles in works by Hindemith, Zimmermann, Leoncavallo and Puccini.

Since 2012/13 he has also been a regular guest at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden in productions of La Cenerentola, Der Freischütz, Es liegt in der Luft, Das tapfere Schneiderlein, Hans im Glück, Lohengrin, Der gestiefelte Kater, Moscow Cheryomushky and Luci mie traditrici.

With the world premiere of the work Ti Vedo ti sento mi perdo by Salvatore Sciarrino, he made his debut at La Scala in Milan in the 2017/18 season, which also celebrated its German premiere in a co-production with the Berlin State Opera.

Since the 2018/19 season Christian Oldenburg has sung at the Opera na Zamku in Szczecin/ Poland roles in the productions of Pagliacci by Leoncavallo, Gianni Schicchi by Puccini, Roméo et Juliette by Gounod and The Trial by Glass, which led to nominations for the 2020 Amber Ring Award/ 2021 Jana Kiepury Theatre Award for Best Actor and Best Singer in the role of Josef K.

In 2022, Christian Oldenburg made his debut as part of the opera festival at the Munich State Opera in the acclaimed production of Capriccio by Strauss under the direction of David Marton. Capriccio, de Strauss, dirIgida por David Marton.

In the 2023/24 season he has performed the operas Ravnen by Hartmann and Werther by Massenet both at the Danish National Opera Aarhus and the Royal Opera Copenhagen and ended with the world premiere of Melancolie de la Résistance by Dalbavie at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin.
